Interview: DJ Mentos, Richmond Hip-Hop producer

Updated: Jun 14, 2021

DJ Mentos talks RVA Hip-Hop and finding an unheard Nat King Cole recording that was a family legend.

The family legend was that when DJ Mentos' father was born that, to celebrate the birth, a young Nat King Cole sang a customized version of his song in The Romany Room, the family restaurant. Lost in the memory of 1941, it suddenly is discovered, validating a family tall-tale and highlighting the connections between us.

DJ Mentos is a Richmond Hip-Hop producer, co-founder of the Wax Build-up parties and is the featured producer for RVA Rap Elite Open Cypher 28.
